Daniela Cristallo
Contemporary Abstract Artist
Daniela Cristallo is a Sydney-based abstract artist known for her richly textured paintings that capture the raw beauty of the Australian landscape. Working primarily with acrylic and oil stick on canvas and board, she also has a long-standing passion for mixed-media drawing on paper.
Inspired by plein air studies, Daniela’s work is a reflection of her deep connection to the landscapes she explores. In her studio, she transforms these experiences into abstract compositions, using layered textures, expressive marks, and an intuitive colour palette to evoke emotion and a sense of place. Her process is both meditative and inventive, allowing the materiality of paint to shape a primal and personal response to nature.
Driven by a profound appreciation for the spirit of the land, Daniela describes her artistic approach as a sensory experience—a dance between memory, mood, and movement. “I love learning from the immediate experience of being immersed in the landscape,” she says. “There is something much bigger than myself out here, which allows me to explore my direction into abstraction. I don’t just want to paint a pretty landscape, but to capture its essence in the most authentic way I can.”
Daniela’s work has been exhibited across Australia, featured in major art prizes, and is held in private collections nationally and internationally.
