Meet the Artists Saturday 9th March 1.30 – 3.30pm
Jan, Rita and Genevieve crossed paths over the years through French classes, University and TAFE connections. Their journeys recently intersected again through art and they revelled in discovering their shared passion for interpreting the beauty of nature through colour, light, stillness and movement. In this exhibition, they bring together a rich array of techniques and forms as they recount moments from their travels and experiences in their individual and unique styles.
Jan Spencer’s oil crayon collages are inspired by plein air drawings made while travelling, cycling and walking in Australia and overseas. She uses oil crayons on coloured papers which are torn or scoured into shapes, pasted on art board and sealed with varnish. The thick dense crayon plays with the torn edges of the coloured papers.
Rita Orsini is an artist, object designer and program producer, with a passion for contemporary design, applied arts and languages. She is well-known for her Osso Buco resin work, OMA silver-lace jewellery and her award-winning hand-painted artist lamps - the Orsini Light - which are in private collections in Australia and Europe. Her latest creations, the DΩMEs, were featured at Sculpture in the Vineyards and during Vivid Sydney at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney.
Genevieve Bessell-Browne uses classical oil painting techniques to create portraits and still lifes including vintage objects and retro kitsch figurines from her personal collection. These are often paired with fruit or flowers drawing on the traditions of Vanitas and Flemish still life painting.
