Jane Henry - Harmony
This recent collection of artworks is a culmination of Jane’s love of Australian native flora and an extension of the challenges of using traditional stitches with organic materials on a paper - a unique mix of mediums.
As a child, Jane spent many hours with her mother & grandmothers learning the skill of fine needlework. This calming pastime is found to be soothing for the soul, which is conveyed through her artworks.
This collection of artworks is created from foraged natural items from my surroundings and hand cut indigo dyed papers. The delicate banksia stamen have been dried, then carefully dissected and cleaned before individually hand stitching into their intricate designs. Each unique artwork takes many hours to design, prep and complete, including 100’s of individual stamen hand stitched into the design.
Although these materials are ephemeral, great care is taken to use only natural cotton/linen threads and archival quality 100% cotton paper for enhanced preservation then they are sealed inside the frame.
“I take great enjoyment from the process of re-arranging collected gifts from nature into beautiful creations, preserving them to celebrate a new perspective on their natural beauty.”
Spending most of her time living and working on a cattle property in Texas, Qld, Jane Henry uses her rural surroundings as a constant inspiration for her creative artworks.
A mostly self-taught artist who enjoys blending various mediums, recently including her own individual style of fibre art. She is constantly extending the capabilities of hand stitching on archival paper with foraged natural fibres and objects creating extremely unique artworks.
These recent intricate botanical creations combine Jane’s love of Australian native flora as well as paying homage to her mother & grandmothers who passed down the skill and appreciation of slow needlework.
