Jo Fernandez - Mostly Cloudy
Jo Fernandez is a landscape artist living in the historic village of Millthorpe, in the NSW Central Tablelands. Her work is inspired by the landscape of the region - the expanses of land and sky, the distinct seasons and their impact on light and colour. Jo's paintings are representational of a landscape that is personal and close to home. Seeking elements within the landscape that she responds to emotionally, she isolates the core significance and uses colour and tone to accentuate nature. Her use of glazing - applying thin layers of transparent oil paint - results in a luminosity in her finished works.
This body of work is the artist's first solo exhibition and builds on her earlier concept of transience with clouds symbolising the fleeting nature of life.
"Looking up at the clouds, I can't help but be moved by their beauty and grace. For a moment I'm relieved of any preoccupations and reminded of our human limitations." - Jo Fernandez.
Mostly Cloudy is an invitation to pause, reflect and restore a sense of our place in nature.
