Amanda Holman - Beyond 4 Walls
Moving back to the country became the catalyst for Amanda Holman to pursue her dream of becoming a full-time artist.
Inspiration to capture the beauty of the countryside evolved from a childhood in the township of Mudgee NSW, a country town surrounded by hills with everchanging colours, rivers framed by ancient rivergums, and seasonal windswept pastures.
Now living in Orange, Amanda has found the surrounding scenery to be a fuel for the senses.
Amanda’s pursuit of landscapes that capture the essence of Australia and the Australian light is paramount in her practice. To create scenes that evoke a sense of connection to the country and a feeling of tranquillity and restfulness is her objective.
Beyond 4 Walls is a collection of works in which Amanda seeks to portray the awe-inspiring beauty of the country around us.
About Amanda
Amanda is an emerging artist based in Central West NSW.
After dedicating her time to family life and to managing her own Building Design business in the city, Amanda was inspired to take up the paintbrush once again following the completion of a colour and design course in 2014/15 and a move back to the country in 2018.
Moving back to the Orange area, to be closer to her husband’s family, has allowed Amanda more time to observe the beautiful colours and seasonal changes within the natural and rural landscapes. In her artworks, Amanda seeks to capture the compelling Australian light and peaceful ambience reminiscent of early works by the Australian Impressionists.
Since returning to her art and setting up a home studio, Amanda has successfully exhibited in a number of selective group exhibitions in Orange, Blayney, Moree, Tamworth, Brisbane and Cowra and has been a finalist in: the Corner Store Gallery’s Landscape prize (2022); Mudgee Arts Precinct (MAP)’s Portrait Prize 2022; the Hunters Hill art prize (2022 & 2023); and the Lethbridge Small Works art prize (2023), among others, as well as being awarded winner of the Cabonne Acquisitive Art Prize in 2021 and Highly Commended in the Lachlan Valley Biennial Art Prize 2023.
Amanda has a Diploma in Building Design, an iscd Cert IV in Design and an iscd Diploma in Creative Visual Arts [specialising in Interior Decoration].
