This body of work focuses on my ongoing attraction to seductively shaped ceramics and coloured glassware. Initially drawn towards portraying unpredictable characters and the unexpected relationships between the subjects in my still life sets, I have subsequently found equal delight in the shadows these objects cast and the abstract shapes of light captured within their forms. As a mother of six children including two stepsons, and having just completed a Bachelor of Fine Art at the National Art School in 2024, I continue to be obsessed with shapely vessels, reflecting the importance of the female form and of being an effective role model for my family.
Originally a graphic designer, Libby Moore subsequently developed this work into a self- taught painting practice in her north-western Sydney home-studio whilst raising her four young children. She works predominantly with acrylic paint to create semi-surreal still lifes incorporating her favourite glass and ceramic objects. Whilst studying at the National Art School, Libby specialised in printmaking, including relief, intaglio and screen, and will continue to work with these techniques.
In 2023 Libby was awarded the Georges River Art Prize Acquisitive, received the Hornsby Shire Local Artist Award in the Hornsby Art Prize and completed residencies with Chris O’Brien Lifehouse and RPA Hospital. In 2022 Libby was a finalist in the Fisher’s Ghost Art Award, Greenway Art Prize, and had a solo show at Ditty Wheels gallery, where she showed her work again in August 2024. Most recently in 2024 Libby was a finalist in the Basil Sellers Art Prize, Hornsby Art Prize, Interior Art Prize, Remagine Art Prize and the Ravenswood Australian Women’s Art Prize.
