Simon Palmer
Historically my work has been associated with strong colours and also the investigation of ‘edges’ – between representation and abstraction, and also the physical nature of edges of paint; whether hard or loose delineations, or the soft blending of paint, each specifically chosen to better evoke moods and create bold visual effects.
My preference is to portray within my paintings some form of controlled ambiguity or layered interplay structured to be evocative of feelings and memories – either related to a particular sense of place; or impressions that are derived from the interactions of colours themselves.
Until the last few years, my focus has been on semi- abstracted landscapes. More recently however, I’ve also been exploring pure abstraction and colour theory.
My background has been in architecture and graphic design, but I have been painting continuously as an integral activity to my professional commitments. I am now focusing more deliberately and consistently on my artwork production.
I like to paint in more than one format and across varying subject matter, and anticipate that in future I’ll continue to produce works across 3 broad genres: pure abstracts, semi-abstract landscapes, and figurative works.
