Australian ceramic artist Gabrielle Wallington first discovered her love for clay as a child, attending pottery classes in the studio of her lifelong mentor and friend, Rebecca Dowling (Bennett). Her early passion grew into a professional ceramics practice, beginning with formal studies in ceramic art at the ANU School of Art in Canberra in 2011. There, she trained under leading Australian ceramicists including Greg Daly, Janet DeBoos, Joanne Searle, Cathy Franco, Gail Nichols, and Ian Jones.
In 2012, Gabrielle broadened her contemporary ceramics practice internationally, studying fine arts at Emily Carr University of Art and Design in Vancouver, Canada. From 2014 to 2016, she completed intensive ceramic art mentorships in North Carolina and Montana, USA, focusing on wood-fired ceramics and working with locally sourced clays.
Her work continued in 2016 in Chile, where she worked as a studio assistant and independent ceramic artist at Ceramistas de Reñaca. Upon returning to Australia, she became business and studio manager at the renowned Hermannsburg Potters in Central Australia in 2017, where she further developed her skills in hand-built ceramics, surface decoration, and ceramic sculpture.
After taking time away from the studio to raise her twins, she returned to New South Wales in 2023 and established her ceramic art studio in Eugowra, near her childhood home. From her studio, she now creates unique handmade ceramics, wood-fired pottery, and contemporary Australian ceramic artworks for collectors and interior design lovers across Australia.
Her work is available to purchase online, with a focus on handcrafted Australian ceramics, one-of-a-kind pottery, and collectible ceramic art made in regional Australia.
