About Pippita
Pippita Bennett lives and works in Katoomba on Dharug and Gundungurra Country. She creates stitched landscapes of places she lives in and visits. Pippita uses a thrifted fabrics overdyed with leaves, bark and flowers. These materials are soaked with the memory of the place they were dyed. Similarly thrifted fabric holds memory of its past use. Pippita’s hand stitching allows her needle to follow the line of a branch, rock or a thought. Stitched line and fabric overlay one another to create artworks of her experience of the landscape. Stitch becomes a way of writing a journal of place and time. Pippita is happiest in her studio with her four dogs beside her or sitting by a campfire with a cup of tea.
