This collection of work explores domestic life centred around the dining table that occupies an important place in the artist’s home. A table of interesting dimensions, long and thin, it was made originally to fit a difficult space. It has since moved house twice, and has fitted into each new space as if it were made to be right there. As the cold season approaches, the table becomes the place to sit in the warmth of Winter sun - to eat, to read, to work, or to talk with friends.

Homegrown flowers and fruit from the gardens of the artist and her friends represents the hospitality and welcome of a seat around this table, and the importance of nurturing a welcoming indoor space during the cold months of the South West Victorian Winter. Much loved ceramics made by the hands of others, as well as humble glass bottles, and an old enamelled tin plate hold the flowers and fruits of this season. Cane chairs that are surprisingly comfortable surround this table, inviting the viewer to take a seat.

Jo is an artist painting with oils. She was one of those children that was always drawing, but did not persue art through her school years. Returning to study Interior Decoration as an adult reconnected Jo with her love of a regular art practice, and now she paints as her full time passion. Adopting a largely self taught approach to painting, she experimented with a number of mediums before falling in love with the rich colour and textural possibilities of oil paint.

Jo lives in a small coastal township on the Great Ocean Road in regional Victoria, where the beautiful natural environment informs much of her landscape work, but as a keen gardener, Jo also has a love of still life that documents her home grown flowers, fruit, and carefully collected household items.

Jo has exhibited in many group shows since 2021, and has been selected as a finalist in a number of national art prizes, including several hosted by The Corner Store Gallery, as well as the Lethbridge 20000, and the Waverley Woollhara 9 x 5 Landscape Prize. Her work is held in many private collections.
