In this small series of 3 paintings, I explore the way we 'collect' people over the course of our lives and the complex emotions tied to these relationships. Each painting features a different individual enclosed in a bell jar, symbolising the way we accumulate people in our lives.
The bell jars represent the delicate balance between holding on and letting go. Some individuals remain with us for a lifetime, their presence a cherished constant, while others pass through quickly, leaving behind fleeting memories. The paintings also reflect on those we should have released long ago, but find ourselves clinging to.
Through these bell jars, I invite viewers to reflect on their own experiences with relationships-those we wish we could preserve forever, those that have been taken from us too soon, and those we should have let go of earlier. This series prompts introspection about how we navigate the people we collect and the impact they have on our lives.
Naomi is an accomplished Australian oil painter whose work epitomises imaginative realism, drawing heavily on the classical academic principles of the old masters. Rooted in a foundation of meticulous technique, Naomi's art is often autobiographical and allegorical, reflecting deep personal experiences of grief and faith.
With an emphasis on nostalgia and beauty, Naomi creates pieces that transcend mere aesthetics, inviting viewers to engage in critical thinking. Believing that art should be inherently beautiful regardless of its subject matter, Naomi strives to produce works that not only captivate the eye but also stir the soul.
Through her practice, Naomi endeavours to keep alive the timeless elegance of classical techniques while infusing them with contemporary relevance.
