Q and A with Monique Fedor
Q and A with Monique Fedor
We first discovered Monique Fedor through our Inside This Box Group Exhibition back in 2021. Monique submitted the most beautiful still life painting of a pear on a plate and has been part of The Corner Store Gallery family ever since. Every single painting she sends our way has found a loving new home immediately, they sell out every time.
We are absolutely thrilled to present Field Notes by Monique Fedor, her newest body of work. Exploring her immediate surroundings and the poetry of every day life, Monique paints moments in time with graceful determination and a conspicuous aesthetic.
Field Notes in on exhibition from October 11th to 21st with pre-sales launching online at 8pm October 10th. If you’d like to meet the artist please come along to our Opening Celebration on Friday October 13th from 6pm and enjoy a drink or two provided by Orange Cellars.
Tell us a little about your background. How long have you been making art?
I’m naturally a creative inclined person, who has loved making all sorts of “art” since early childhood. My first love was sketching in pencil creating detailed works of my surroundings but after a few years of that I have slowly moved to oils and fallen in love with their texture and smoothness. It’s been a joy painting for last 4 to 5 years or so.
What inspired this new body of work? What was your motivation?
This new body of work has been inspired by my recent travels and feeling the motivation to try and capture some of the incredible sights and surrounds I came across on these adventures. Australia has so much beauty in so many aspects you could spend a thousand lifetimes creating body’s of work based off just that alone.
Can you talk us through your process?
I do really enjoying creating in collections …I find that it really helps you move through an idea or a focus that might be particularly on your mind. With landscapes I work from photos on my phone and piece them together on the canvas, while with still life pieces I generally like to work from painting what I see in front of me. (Provided the kids give me the time, I do a-lot of my painting at night haha)
Can you describe your work space to our readers?
It’s a converted spare bedroom that I’ve over taken and turned into a studio of sorts. I’ve my little desk and easel that I work from with paints and brushes spilling out everywhere. Theres a piano next to this that acts as an unconventional “drying rack” for my newly created pieces in need of some room to dry. It’s small, cosy and does the trick!
What's next for Monique Fedor?
I’m so out of my mind excited to talk about what’s next! My little family and I will be renting our home out to travel next year spending 6 months in Europe together where I will be taking my paints with me to capture as much as I can. I’m sure there will be plenty of crazy moments with our little ones in tow but we’re very grateful for this experience and excited to see what adventure awaits us!
