Guest Curator Kasturi Wren

Kasturi Wren is the owner and creative brains behind the beautiful Instagram account (and brand) @wrenandwhippet. I can’t remember how or when I came across Kasturi’s account but I was instantly hooked on the beautiful imagery, styling and story telling. Go immediately and check it out, you won’t regret it! Kasturi was high on my hit list of Guest Curators, she has a strong aesthetic and a passion for art. Kas has also just launched an artist residency program detailed below….

In 2017, Kasturi Wren decided to leave a corporate life as Lawyer and start her own legal practice while designing and building her first project home in Leura, Blue Mountains. With a love for arts and culture, she began to engage with local artists before launching Wren & Whippet - a brand that has developed over the years to become a platform with a growing audience where she can share her own writing, interior designs and photography while collaborating with artists and designers.

In 2023, Kasturi launched The Artist Residency program at her home in Coolah, NSW. The residency is open to all artists who want to spend a period of 4-7 days in a rural country town where they will have access to the beautiful Coolah Tops and idyllic surrounds as well as be inspired by country home interiors. The residency shall also provide the artist an opportunity to be open to a new audience through a collaborative process of social media promotion on the Wren & Whippet instagram platform during the residency. At present, there are no residency vacancies open until April 2024. All applications are welcome to be sent via direct message on the Wren & Whippet Instagram account.

Natasha Daniloff, Windy Sky, 2023

Oil on linen, 30x25cm, framed

$580

This work by Natasha Daniloff reminds me both of Georgia Okeefs New Mexican landscapes and the chiseled mountains tops of the Blue Mountains where I often seek solace. She manages to capture the depth of the mountains ridges as well as the vastness of the sky ever so perfectly.

Linda Kruger, Apples and Milk, 2023

Acrylic on canvas, 32.5x32.5cm, framed

$780

This still Life capture is so vibrant and captivating. It’s a celebration of the every day and I am here for it.

Chanel Sohier, Afternoon Haze, 2023

Oil on canvas, 30x25cm, framed

$600

Chanel Sohier’s work resonates calm and peacefulness, like a beautiful dream massaging my mind. This is one for my library wall.

Georgina Sambell, Still life with Sourdough, 2023

Oil on Linen, 42x47cm framed.

$1200

Georgina Sambell’s work is a romantics ode to a simple country life. I love her use of colour and texture and her ability to make something so simple into something so fascinating to the eye.

Kiandra Buchanan, Plums on a Vintage Tablecloth, 2023

Oil on canvas, 27x43cm framed

$495

This is one of those pieces of works that I seem be drawn to very naturally. I love a still life that romanticises the every day in a most poetical way - an Emily Dickinson poem using paint!

Dee Roberts, Squiggles in the Landscape, 2022

Oil on Linen, 30.5x35.5cm, framed

$440

Dee Roberts’ work is fascinating. Her playful use of colour magically creates so much depth and contouring.

Emily Heath, Home, 2023

Oil on cotton/polyester canvas, 25x30cm, framed in Blackwood

$780

Emily Heath’s work is endearing in its short sighted simplicity and long sighted  tonal mastery. This is the perfect piece to include in my Kitchen Wall Gallery.

Andrea Hopgood, Sunburnt Country, 2022

Oil on canvas, 80x80cm framed.

$4000

Similar to Turners metaphysical dream like paintings, this work by Andrea Hopgood draws me in and leaves me feeling both nostalgic and hopeful at the same time.

Amanda Ogilby, Evening Read, 2023

Oil on canvas, 54x64cm framed.

$1320

Amanda Ogilby’s work simply brings me so much joy. Her contextual colouring of an interior space is playful and simply charming.
