Martine Zajacek is an emerging artist with a love of vintage printed paper in all forms, using the medium of collage to create artworks of layered complexity. She “paints” with paper and “draws” with stitching.

She graduated from the QCA in the 1980s with a Bachelor of Graphic Communication and worked as a Graphic Designer for many years. This experience directly influences her use of colour and composition – features of her collage work.

Martine’s debut exhibition was in November 2023, and since then has been exhibiting her work in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland in over 25 exhibitions.

Career highlights include a joint exhibition with Lucy Hersey in June, and an Art Residency in August. This month Martine’s work was included in a curated group show of contemporary art at PICES in Cowes – to date nine of the eleven works have sold.

Living in on the coast in regional Victoria with lush countryside just behind me, I am nurtured and inspired by the landscape. My most recent works, since mid 2024, have been landscapes, both coastal and country. In my collages I attempt to recreate the colours, textures and emotions of these landscapes. Colour and composition are key elements of my work, and I add texture via stitching. My works are best viewed up close in a gallery setting, photos can not capture the layers of colour and texture effectively.
