Tenyka Jay is an oil painter based in Brisbane, Australia. Her work is deeply inspired by themes of nostalgia. As a mother of two, she balances the vibrant chaos of family life with her passion for creating art. Her studio—tucked into a shared space that also serves as her children’s bedroom—provides the perfect light to bring her visions to life.

“At Rest” is a reflection on the quiet stillness that blankets the world in the early hours of a spring morning. Painted in oil on wood panel, this work captures the serene beauty of Toowong Cemetery as the first light of day awakens the Brisbane skyline in the distance.

This piece was inspired by the artist’s morning walks through the cemetery, where the peaceful coexistence of life and memory unfolds. The juxtaposition of the resting city and the resting dead speaks to the fleeting, yet timeless, nature of these moments of tranquility. Through soft hues and delicate brushwork, the painting invites the viewer to pause and embrace the stillness, finding solace in the gentle rhythm of a new day.
