One morning in our old house the neighbours across the road dropped off a big bag of lemons and oranges from the trees in their backyard. What a (literally) neighbourly thing to do. Painted here in front of the pressed metal splashback in the kitchen. I was a little bit enamoured with this pressed metal pattern and how perfectly it fitted our wee worker’s cottage. A little painting for a little act of kindness on a little street.

I am in Toowoomba (land of the Gaibal, Jarowair and Jagera people) and there is no place in the world I would rather be living with my husband and raising our 2 young kids. Despite being in Queensland, there are seasons, gardens, great coffee and so many friends that all live within a 10 minute drive.
I am a self-taught artist that has supplemented my skills in recent years with short workshops in tapestry with Natalie Miller, oil paint with Kate Quinn and fabric paint with the Happen Store. Most recently, I completed a week-long workshop at the McGregor School with Daniel Butterworth, covering portraits, life drawing, landscape and still life.

I have worked as a GP around Australia for the last 10 years. I have had the privilege of being involved in the ‘big moments’ of people’s lives, like pregnancies, cancer diagnoses and their end-of-life care. But mostly the job is a practical one, helping inform lots of small decisions by the person in front of you around their own priorities and health care. For example, which form of psychology will fit best around your work? Is there a type of contraception that will also help manage your disruptive and painful periods?
With a past of many house-moves and amongst the daily work with complicated lives, the artworks are able to provide a quiet reflection on the snippets that make up this extraordinary, ordinary life. Problem solving how to approach an idea for an artwork is a way of choosing my own story. Finishing an artwork is a therapeutic resolution to my other work, as that is rarely completed.
