When I travel or walk around where I live, I seek out the old houses. I photograph and draw them, capturing their colours with chalky pastel pencils. I like the bright colours of their exteriors and their modesty. They look enduring and optimistic, and they hold stories too. Drawing them is a way of honoring them as they disappear completely or change under coats of paint and renovations. It is also a record of places I have been with my family.
