Maryellen van der Vegt is an emerging textile artist and designer based in Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Holding a Bachelor of Fashion & Textile Design from UTS, she creates contemporary textiles inspired by the art of tapestry weaving. Her use of plant and food waste to naturally dye her materials results in a soft, earthy colour palette reflecting her preoccupation with ideas of transformation and the cycles of nature and life.
Her work, Scribbles, pays tribute to the iconic ‘scribbly gums’ of NSW, symbolizing continual evolution as they shed bark and reveal another layer of distinctive markings each year.
